Am I going to be in trouble with the ATO?

Clients will often come to me with outstanding tax returns. It is not uncommon for someone to come to me with 10 years of tax returns overdue. Sometimes they have gotten nasty letters from the ATO, however sometimes they may go unnoticed by the ATO.

Most of the time clients are wondering if they are going to get in trouble. It is always worse if they avoid the problem. The ATO can get nasty. I have seen them issue default assessments based on the information that they have received or even take someone to court in order to make them complete their BAS and tax returns.

However this is in extreme cases. For the majority I can help them out before they get to this stage and avoid most penalties.

They key to this is being prompt and precise. You want to lodge all outstanding matters all at once to avoid further issues.
